Upon graduation, Dr. Barnes moved to Kansas City where he worked in a mixed practice for 2 1/2 yrs.  It was at that time he and his family decided to move back to New England.  After working in N. Andover for 3 years, Dr. Barnes set out on his own and opened the Atkinson Equine Practice in 1987.  He opened Edgefield in Feb. 1990.

Dr. Barnes received his training in Veterinary Acupuncture from CSU in 1999.  He received training in Chiropractic and Advanced Veterinary Chiropractic in 2000 and 2001 respectively.  He has also received specialized training in the Tibial Tuberosity Advancement Technique (TTA) for the surgical management of cranial cruciate ligament injuries in dogs.  Dr. Barnes has been performing these surgeries successfully since the spring of 2008.  Dr. Barnes is a member of the AVMA, NHVMA, MVMA, IVAS and AAEP.  He is a past President of the NHVMA and a past Chair of the State Veterinary Ethics Committee.

Emily Lebiedz, DVM

Originally from Connecticut, Emily has always been interested in animals.  She worked at a wildlife center in middle and high school where she raised several sets of orphaned baby squirrels, raccoons, and even field mice!  She also worked for a local veterinarian as a kennel helper/technician.  After graduating high school she went on to major in Animal Science at UMASS Amherst.  While there she developed a love for riding horses, and became a certified riding instructor.  During summer breaks she worked at the school's horse farm as well as milking 500 cows at a local dairy farm.  She went on to Tufts Veterinary School and graduated in 1997.

Emily's first job after graduation was at Suffolk Downs as one of the track vets.  Inspecting all the horses for the day's races and making sure both horses and jockey were safe on the track was an interesting entrance to the profession.  Emily started at Edgefield in 1998.  For the first several years she split her time between our horse practice and our small animal hospital.  Although she loves both aspects of practice, horse work with its erratic schedule does not lend itself well to family life and motherhood.  Emily is a member of the AVMA and NHVMA.  She currently lives in Southern NH with her husband (not a vet!), her four kids, two dogs (Hovawarts), two horses, two rats, a chinchilla, a betta and two very large catfish.  In her free time (what little there is!) she tries to keep up with her riding and dog agility training.

 Holly VanNess, DVM

Originally from Connecticut, Dr. VanNess has had a passion for animals since childhood.  While growing up she tried to help any orphaned wildlife and domestic animals she came upon.  She attended the University of Connecticut, earning a degree in pathobiology.  During her undergraduate studies she worked at an aquarium and as an animal caregiver at the UCONN horse barn.  She pursued her veterinary clinical studies at the Louisiana State University from 2003-2004.  Dr. VanNess received her  Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Degree from Ross University in 2004.  Holly worked at a mixed animal practice and a  small animal hospital for 4 years prior to joining the Edgefield team as a part-time Veterinarian in 2009.  Currently, she also practices emergency medicine full-time at Capital Area Veterinary Emergency Services (CAVES) in Concord, NH.  Holly also works at the Cocheco Valley Humane Society.  She has been an active member of the People for Animal Welfare of St. Kitts and has served on the board of directors of the Sullivan County Humane Society.  She is a member of the AABP, AAEP, VECCS and AVMA.  Holly lives in NH with her dogs, "Jaloop" and "Tacita" and in her limited spare time she enjoys running and biking.

Jamie Kule, DVM

Jamie grew up in Salem, NH and while attending high school became interested in veterinary medicine.  During her senior year, she participated in her school's internship program and shadowed Dr. Barnes and the staff here at Edgefield.  During her third day a basset hound came in to deliver puppies and that was when she knew she was going to pursue a career in the veterinary field!  She was hired as a receptionist/technician assistant at Edgefield at the end of her internship and continued to work here throughout her years in college.  Jamie obtained her Bachelor's Degree at Assumption College in Worchester, MA.  Throughout her undergraduate work, Dr Barnes helped motivate her and encouraged her to attend Veterinary School.  Jamie attended the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada and graduated in May 2011.  Jamie re-joined our team as a part time Veterinarian in October 2011. She enjoys performing surgery, diagnostics, and routine annual exams where she has a chance to build relationships with clients and their pets.  She has a special interest in emergency medicine and works full time at a veterinary emergency hospital.  Jamie is a member of the AVMA and VECCS.

In her free time, you can find her at the beach, in the gym or with her family which includes her two orange tiger cats, "Bailey" and "Simba", her hedgehog, "Penelope" and her bull terrier "Chopper".

Cyndi started her career as a veterinary technician in 1986.  She managed a hospital in Northern Mass before joining the Edgefield team in Jan. 1992.  She has also been working part-time at the Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester since 1997.  She lives in NH with her husband, Brian, and their cat, "Fizz".  In her free time, she is pursuing her masters in education and enjoys swimming, reading, camping and riding her Harley.

Veterinary Technician, BS

Marlene has been employed as Head Vet Tech at Edgefield since Jan 1991.  She grew up in NH and graduated from UNH with a BS in Animal Science.  She first started working as a Vet Tech in 1976.  She currently lives in Southern NH with her three Pharaoh Hounds, "Alazar", "Zahra" and "Syrena".  When not working, she spends her time with her fiance, Greg, and enjoys showing and coursing her Pharaohs.

Client/Patient Care

Janet was a client for many years before joining our team in 2006.  Even though her background is not veterinary, she loves the people and the animals she meets working here.  She lives with her husband, two dogs, two horses and has two sons in college.  Janet enjoys dressage, trail riding, walking her dogs and gardening.

Client/Patient Care

Melissa joined our team in 2007. She has loved animals since she was a little girl and has a cat and horse of her own. She is currently managing a restaurant and enjoys working with people and animals. In the little free time she has, Melissa enjoys showing horses, being in the barn, relaxing with her cat, and spending time with her friends and family.

Client/Patient Care

Robin joined our team in Dec 2013. She started her career as an Animal Control Officer and entered the veterinary field in 1984.  Robin grew up in Hudson NH and obtained her BA in psychology/sociology from UMASS.  She has been in the veterinary field her entire adult life and has a great respect for the profession and the human-animal bond.  She currently  lives in NH with her chihuahua, Batman, and her two cats, Colby and Frito Lay.  When not working she enjoys hiking in the White Mtns, walking Batman, reading and spending time with family and friends.
